About Me

I’m Alexa Moore (she/they). I am a registered clinical counsellor. I’m also a musician, surfer, artist and gardener. I am deeply committed to my own wellness, and spend a lot of time in nature, expressing myself creatively, and connecting with my family and community. I am of Scottish/Dutch descent, and have spent most of my life living in Victoria on the unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən (Lekwungen) People, known today as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations.

My Experience

I have been supporting the mental health of children, teenagers, and their families for over a decade in a variety of community settings (The Learning Curve, Fernwood Community Association, Family Services of Greater Victoria, Victoria Child and Youth Mental Health). In 2022, I graduated from the University of Victoria with a Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#20500) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have received training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), play therapy, anxiety management, and suicide prevention (full list of trainings below). I am committed to my ongoing professional development as a counsellor, and engage in new training on a regular basis. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, self-esteem challenges, and queer and trans youth and families.

My Approach

My approach as a counsellor is warm, engaging, and non-judgemental. My goal is to provide my clients with a space that supports them to tolerate and express big feelings, explore their inner experiences, and work towards their goals in life. Together we develop a tool-kit of skills and practices that will support their mental wellbeing so they can follow their passions, have deep and meaningful relationships, and grow their resilience to navigate the complexity and fullness of life. My approach is influenced by person-centered counselling, CBT, EFFT, DBT, Internal Family Systems, play therapy, Jungian psychology and expressive arts therapy.

With younger clients, there tends to be more of a focus on play therapy and creative expression in sessions.  With consent from the youth, I work closely with parents/guardians to provide them with interventions and tools to support their child.
